Last weekend I attended a course on writing. It was really cool. I learnt a lot, and got to know some fellow hobby writers. The course instructor was a professional author, who had published plays, poetry and children's books.
In the course, we learnt to exploit all our senses in the writing, we learnt to observe and describe people and situations, and to write better about feelings. We had some good discussions on what we had written in the exercises. Maybe I will post some of my snippets later.
To my surprise, I was the only man in the course. The rest of the participants were women, age 20 to 75. I don't no why there were no other men. Maybe men don't write, or maybe they believe they have nothing to learn. I have >:)

Nice to see that you can manage at least some of your wishes/visions to come true...
ReplyDeleteYes, very nice. There will be mor of it >:)
DeleteThat is interesting about the lack of men at the course. The last course I took on writing ended up being a 45 minutes session on grammar do's and don'ts, which was valuable, but not a game changer in terms of writing.
ReplyDeleteThe writing course was fun, I will probably attend another one next year. Maybe some more men will attend next time. Whatever, I'm happy to do a course with only women >:)
DeleteThere always seem to be more women when I attend writing conferences or workshops. I don't know why. Women read more on average so maybe they write more?
ReplyDeleteYes, I've seen the statistics, that women read more, which would probably correlate with writing more too. But what about the past? Most classics were written by men. Did things change significantly, or is it only due to the suppression of women? Probably the latter.
DeleteBack when I was single I used to look for such opportunities. Didn't do much good though.
