Black metal birthday

Today Michele at Southern City Mysteries is hosting a blogfest, to celebrate the one-year anniversary for her blog. Congratulations, Michele!

I wrote this little story, just for fun, drabble style, 200 words exactly, to avoid boring you with too many words, it's true >:)

Black metal birthday

When he woke up, she gave him a kiss and an envelope.
- Happy birthday my dear, she said.

He had wondered what gifts he would get this year. He had everything he needed and a lot of crap he didn't need.
- What do you wish for your birthday?
He got the question every year, and always gave the same answer
- Nothing.
It was never fulfilled.

He stumbled around to find his glasses, opened the envelope slowly, and read the card inside: “You’re permitted to play black metal in the car as load as you like for one week”. Great! This was a birthday present he liked; non-material. She really hated black metal, but she was willing to suffer for one week, about an hour every day.

They worked in the same office building and drove to and from work together every day, picking up kids at school on the way home. The first day he played a good old Satyricon CD, the second day Gorgoroth.

The third morning, when he was right about to shift to his favorite album, she smiled and said
- Enjoy your drive. I think I'll take my bike to work today >:)

  8. I like to hear bands take lame songs and make them metal. Will someone please do this with Abba (I still like them) and The Carpenters? Thanks you.

  10. Very cute story! I've been trying to convince my family for the past few years that we stop giving bought Christmas presents - I think I may be getting close to success this year! Nothing sounds like a good present to me. But I'd also take the bike to work...

  12. I love it! A brilliant birthday present, and a brilliant solution to what otherwise might have become a marital problem ;) Also, I think you've written a double drabble, or rather, a "droubble" (a term I learnt only yesterday)

  13. I hear ya! My wife cringes at my music, but my infant sleeps through it. That's my girl!

  14. Stephen: The metal bands I listen to play mostly their own stuff, but sometimes they make covers of each other. Here's a nice example: Aerie Decent - Emperor cover
And here is the original by Thorns, from the so-called Trøndertun tapes: Aerie Decent - Thorns

    Mesmerix: Thanks >:)

Judy: I'm trying the same. Best gifts are non-material, second best is eatable. I guess the fact that we don't appreciate gifts anymore tells something about how far off the industrial world has come.

    Rayna: Thanks >:)

Cruella: I wasn't quite sure if has to be 100 words exactly to be called a drabble. So that's why I called it drabble style. Thanks for teaching me the term droubble >:)

Will: Both my family and myslef are grateful to Apple for the invention of iPod. That's the way I usually enjoy my music. Black metal is a music genre full of really good drummers. I'm a really bad one, trying hard to learn how to play blast beats. Here's a great example by one of the best death metal drummers: George Kollias of Nile . Note the fabulous base drum technique

All: I'm going to France for vacation next week, so no posts. But hopefully I'll get back with some new writing ideas >:)
