On the beach

Today was a nice and warm summer day, almost 25 degrees (75 Fahrenheit). We don't get too many days like this in our town. So I left work early, and then little boy and I went to the beach.

There are many small beaches along the fjord, close to town center. Little boy picked a beach that has an ice-cream shop. We agreed that swimming was required to get ice cream.

The water in the fjord was refreshing ... some would say cold. But the kids of Winterland don't care, they swim anyway. You just can't stay in the water for very long.

We both got ice cream, before we went home >:)

  1. Enjoy your weather. And ice cream is a must. Or popsiscles. We were able to enjoy a sunny day earlier this week at a friend's pool. Good times for sure.

  2. 25 degrees! What I wouldn't give for 25 degrees right now. Might make up for the heartbreaking loss of Ghana. They played so well against a much higher ranked team, it was just so sad to see them lose as they did. Some ice cream would help! Hope you and Little Boy enjoyed yours!

  3. Ice cream is a must on the beach, for sure >:)

I was supporting Ghana yesterday too, Judy. Damn pity that the penalty kick in the last second of the overtime hit the bar. But all over, I think Africa and Ghana should be very proud of the team. They have done a great WC performance. Some of the players have been outstanding, like the goal keeper Richard Kingston, and the big defender Mensah, probably the most athletic football player I've ever seen. Unfortunately Ghana's biggest star, Chelsea midfielder Essien, got injured before the WC and hasn't played at all.

  4. You are clearly acclimated to the weather. At the reverse are Texans. We are used to 100 degrees and the heat doesn't bother us much. 25 degrees would send me in search of thick socks, sweaters, coats, ear muffs, hats, and a fireplace.

  5. ARE YOU INSANE!? Not going to the beach--that sounds heavenly and wise, but SWIMMING? THAT IS SNOW MELT!!!! I'm quite convinced that September may be the only month---after a full summer of warmth, that that water wouldn't give a person hypothermia!

(Sounds like a great day though, other than the frost bite!)

  6. Summers are often too cold and too short to warm the water in the fjords and the archipelago on the coast. But small fresh-water lakes and ponds that heat quickly can be nice for swimming. September is too late; then the summer is over and night temperatures start to fall below the freezing point >:)

  7. Ah, beaches. We were wandering the beach on San Juan island and enjoying the views, but we didn't swim. Did eat ice cream though.

  8. You need to keep this post up a long time. It's hot in Texas, plus one of the a/c units just died. So I come here, look at the picture, and cool off. Thanks.

  9. We can switch - you can have my 28-32c WEEKS? And I can have a bit cooler weather? We are about as far north...

  10. No need for A/C here, Helen. We only have heating, but don't use it in the summer >:)

I would be happy to take a couple of your 30 Celcius summer weeks, Silme. We have more than enough of cold summer days ...

  11. I haven't been west since '07, had a Swede in tow - he was amazed that all my relatives considered 18-19c a rather nice summer day and went swimming as soon as it went over 16c, since he found it quite cold :D Culture shock... But man do I miss the cool winds of summer sailing in the archipelago between of the S/W coast, especially now that I am stuck in an overheated office.
