Ski-zophrenia
Another great weekend on the slopes, blue sky, dry cold snow and good skiing conditions.
Both kids had competitions, alpine racing for the little one and freestyle for the older. The cometitions took place at the same time, but at different places in the ski resort. It's the kind of schedule that makes dad schizophrenic.
Saturday older boy had a slopestyle competition, and little boy was in a giant slalom race. After his 2nd run, we jumped straight on the chair lift to the top of the mountain, and skied down on the other side. We just made it to see older boy's last two runs in the slopestyle finals. His mother, fortunately, attended the entire slopestyle competition.
Sunday older boy had a big-air competition. I dropped him off by the freestyle park in the morning, and went to the slalom course for little boy's race. I assisted him on the course inspection, and served as gate judge during the race.
Before the slalom race was over, older boy called and told he had finished 3rd in the big-air final. Good boy. He's old enough to manage on his own.
It makes things a little bit easier >:)
(I took both pictures yesterday, with less than two hours between, in little boys first run in the giant slalom, and older boys last run in the slopestyle final)

Your kids are really good! And good for you that your support them, even if it makes you a little nuts.
ReplyDeleteThose are pretty awesome pictures! Your kids must be quite good. I suppose they got more than a fair share of the "born with skis"-gene. Personally I only got the "Once every three years, and only cross-country"-gene ;)
ReplyDeleteThat's so hard to have your kids at the same time! We've had that a couple times and it's a nightmare. We generally split up, as ours are never at the same venue, but I always feel badly for missing one.
ReplyDeleteAre we looking at future Olympic stars?
ReplyDeleteAll that snow makes me nervous!
Judy (South Africa)
Alex: For the kids skiing is the meaning of life, and I must admit I enjoy it myself >:)
ReplyDeleteCruella: Giving birth to kids with skis on appears to be both painful and unpractical. However, after the boys were born, the skis have been used quite frequently >:)
Hart: Exactly. We split up too, when there are confilcts in the schedule. As a parent you feel like you're missing someting if you can't attend all.
Judy: We have lots of extremely good skiers in this country, but very few make all the way to the Olympics. What's important for me is that the kids get skiing skills for the rest of their lives. It's the kind of skills you need to acquire from childhood. Beginning as an adult, you will never reach a really high level.
Family time in the snow. I need to take the fam to the mountains and play around in the white stuff for a while. Good luck with the kids and their competitions!
